My favorite piece I am wearing right now is my Awakenings Bombe Ring in Sunrise. It is 18K yellow gold with 7 carats of Pink, Orange, and Yellow Sapphires ( all hand cut). I made this ring in these colors to reference the sunrise, representing new beginnings and happy colors. The ring's gallery is a Flower of Life pattern, which I included in the design because this pattern is said to be protective and healing. Even though this is a statement ring, I wear it daily because it means so much to me.”

We’re on the cusp of September, that glorious month that welcomes the changing of seasons and is represented by a most beloved gemstone—sapphire.
Surely, you’ll get your fill of the the latest, most beautiful sapphires this month here on JCK (like this roundup of birthstone beauties), elsewhere, and in social media, though is there such a thing as getting your fill of such a lovely stone?
Most of them will be blue. A blue so divine, you’ll wish to leap right in. Now I’m not suggesting that image could be tiresome (truly never!), but just this once, maybe we can welcome sapphire with another one of its hues?
]]>Los Angeles-based designer Ann Korman’s years-long training in yoga, meditation and Vedic astrology, among other spiritual disciplines, helped lay the groundwork for her new Awakenings collection, which celebrates the promise implicit in a sunrise: “Birth, growth, and new beginnings of all kinds,” says Korman.
Combining sapphires in shades of pink, yellow and orange with plique-à-jour, an ancient enameling technique that uses cells of enamel to create a beguiling stained-glass effect, the collection brims with standout pieces, such as the 18k gold bombé-style Sunrise ring, featuring 7 carats of hand-cut sapphires in graduated hues.
Equally distinctive are the collection’s two 18k gold and plique-à-jour statement necklaces: One pays homage to the Om symbol, which is engraved on the back side to acknowledge “how everything in the universe is connected,” says Korman, while the Horizon necklace conceals a Gayatri mantra written in Sanskrit on the back. Intended to be spoken as the sun rises, the words are “said to have the energy to fulfill all desires,” according to Korman. Yes, please!

“I’m really looking forward to expanding my business. I’m wearing my yellow sapphire for expansion,” she laughs, referring to the Indian tradition of wielding certain gems to help achieve life goals. She is at last finding her voice, she says, and the authenticity of that voice is what she hopes will protect Ark from getting lost in the now-crowded spiritual-jewelry market. In that sense, it seems that Korman is her own talisman.
